I like this guy.

“All users of ‘uw-wireless’ should switch to using ‘eduroam’, as soon as possible, to avoid disruption in service. ‘eduroam’ offers a higher level of security, and can be used at other participating universities in Canada.”

I’ve gone from writing cookie-cutter cover letters in an attempt to get co-op interviews to reading cookie-cutter cover letters from students hoping that I’ll give them a co-op interview. Things have come full circle.
You can now donate to the American Red Cross through iTunes. Pretty cool.
On self-improvement
New Year’s resolutions are a strange beast. The self-reflection that the passing of another year brings causes us to vow to change ourselves into better people. This year, we think, will be the year where we will become the people that we want to be.
Unfortunately, while our intentions are good, we treat major life changes as things that we can make happen if we just try hard enough. So...

I took 1st year courses. In my second year of university, I took 2nd year courses. In my third year of university, I’ve taken 2nd year courses, and next term I’ll take 3rd year courses. In my fourth year of university, I’ll take 3rd year courses and then 4th year courses. In my fifth year of university, I’ll take 4th year courses.
What a horrible identity crisis.

I’ve been trying to make do with the flaky, slow WiFi at my apartment complex, and I can’t take it anymore. So I’m looking at other options. The only two choices in my complex are AT&T and Comcast. If you sign up for AT&T DSL, the prices are such that a package with home phone service is pretty much the same price. It’s the same thing with Comcast: once you sign...

EXHAUSTED
willards:
but so in love with California’s coast (not so much the inland).
The coast was beautiful, but the inland was more exciting. What more could you ask for than a drive in total darkness on a ridiculously windy road through the mountains, while dodging deer at every turn?
We're waiting in Calgary

on our way to San Francisco! Unfortunately, they just made an announcement that our flight is delayed for an hour. Stinkers. At least there is free Wifi.
See you soon!

United vs. Air Canada?
willards:
Does anyone know if there is a difference between booking through Air Canada or United for the same flight? Air Canada seems to be about $15 more expensive, not much, but is there a reason to pay the extra? Does United make you pay for checked luggage or something?
United does make you pay for checked baggage, but it’s only for flights operated by United, not flights with UA...
I know that it’s an easy thing for someone in my position to say, but I’m starting to think that being an interviewer is at least as difficult as being interviewed. At the end of the interview, the interviewee has done everything they need to do. The interviewer has to make a decision.
Tomorrow, instead of going to work, I’m headed off to Great America with the rest of my department for a day of fun. I’ve heard that they have a lot of the same rides as Wonderland, but there should be some different ones too. Should be a fun time!
